Lu Ten blinked in surprise as she jumped, but shrugged it off. He could understand in a way, considering the circumstances. If he was in the same situation, he probably wouldn’t want to be touched either. The prince took the sandwich and bit into it, savoring its tasty flavor.
He smiled slightly. ”As you are too, Yue.” A pause. ”It must be hard. Staying in a foreign land nearly by yourself… Especially since the place happens to be an enemy nation…” He took another bite of his sandwich. ”You’re brave for doing so.”
“It’s for the good of the people.” Yue spoke with a dull tone, the people the people. That’s all that ever mattered Just because she was blessed by the moon. She was automatically the savior of her people. This had been held above her head as long as she could remember. Her expression was sour. Bright blue eyes darkening but remembering she was entertaining Yue looked up. “Oh I’m brave?” She looked at him curious. She’d never thought of it that way. Finishing the sandwich she returned her gaze to him. “But you are not my enemy Lu Ten.”

The Avatar stepped into Jeong Jeong’s life almost as abruptly as his daughter Azula did. Well, Azula wasn’t really his daughter, but those were just petty details. He thought of her as such, and that’s all that should really matter.
What did matter was the Avatar’s firebending training. Jeong Jeong sighed as the boy wanted to rush the training. It was like his former pupil, Zhao. Too much like Zhao. The firebender grumbled to himself as he walked back to his camp. He noticed as he walked that Azula and the Water Tribe girl—Katara was it?—were conversing by the river as they both trained. Even the Water Tribe boy—Sokka perhaps?—concentrated on what appeared to be fishing.
For once when people wandered into the camp, things seemed to be running smoothly. That was a nice change of pace. A nice change indeed. For now, everyone was concentrating on what they needed to do, and the Avatar was just outside the side of the camp he walked from. That was one thing Jeong Jeong couldn’t really let go from his days in the Navy. The order and organization. Though he was well adapt to abrupt changes, he preferred to have everything as orderly as possible.
Jeong Jeong walked quickly, but quietly through the camp and further down the river to think. For a strange reason that he couldn’t explain, the water calmed and relaxed him. Not that he was complaining. Though it was still odd that a firebender got more comfort from the water than his own element. Funny how the world works that way.
He sat alone alongside the riverbank for a few moments before he saw something upriver. The firebender squinted his eyes to get a better view of whatever was approaching as he stood up. Soon he saw a familiar figure on the small boat leading the others.
“Zhao.”
Jeong Jeong quietly retreated into the forest and towards the camp to warn the others.
